Ballast is a large-sized rough-edged blue to black aggregate which are usually applied in civil construction to resist erosion and prevent rockfall in retaining walls, bank stabilisation, land reclamation, and large landscaping applications. Additionally, ballast can be used as a soil amendment to help improve the fertility of the soil and enhance its ability to support vegetation growth.
